I’ve been umming and arring over restarting a beauty box subscription after having some pretty disappointing experiences with past boxes containing lots of products I just didn’t find myself using. However, with Glossybox emailing me to let me know about their “Iconic Hollywood Edition” box, temptation took hold and I re subscribed dreaming of all the movie star ready products that would be dropping onto my doorstep.
The box features an image of arguably the most iconic Hollywood star of all time, Marilyn Monroe and the lid features one of her famous quotes. In a change from the normal pink and black the box is either a peach, sky blue, mint green or lemon colour. Mine, as you can see was the mint green and this colour scheme echoed through the whole box.
So, on to the bit most people including me are interested in, the content;Lord & Berry Lipstick Pencil in Kiss – Full Size – £10; This was one of the items that was released on the spoiler that originally drew me to the box. I mean, who doesn’t dream of recreating Marilyn Monroe’s famous red pout? Having only ever tried one other product from Lord & Berry I was excited to give this a shot. I’ve always found lipstick pencils a little easier to control and apply than traditional lipsticks, so this is great for on the go. I love the matte finish and this has got a permanent place in my every growing handbag makeup stash.Astral Original Face & Body Moisturiser – 50ml – £3.89 for 200ml; Astral has apparently been a favourite with makeup artists and hollywood stars since the 1950, which explains its link to the “Iconic Hollywood” them of the box. Normally, my go to moisturiser is Nivea so I was actually a little excited to try out a different brand without running the risk of my sensitive acting up. I actually got on really well with this and will definitely be picking the full sized when this runs out!
Pop Beauty Kajal Eyeliner Pen – Full Size – £6.50; I’ve heard some great things about Pop Beauty but I’ve never tried any of their products prior to receiving this box. Unlike a normal pencil, liquid or pen eyeliner, this also features a smudger which makes it ideal for creating smokey eyes. Glossybox suggests that this would be ideal for creating Elizabeth Taylor’s famous cat eye look and I agree.
Colour Club Nail Polish in Barely There – Full Size – £4.10; Despite my nail salon of choice carrying as large range of Colour Club polishes, I normally bring my own so this is another brand I hadn’t tried out prior to receiving the box. I adore nude colours and I feel that this will be perfect for spring, it’s got me craving another manicure already!
IDC Country Rose Body Lotion – Full Size – £3.59; At first, I was shocked to discover that this was in fact a full sized product! It reminds me of the travel sized lotions and potions that luxury hotels normally offer. The texture of this lotion is lovely and super moisturising, but unlike the rest of the box, I don’t think I’ll find myself picking up another when it runs out, at least not in this scent. Although the rose smell does remind me of vintage beauty, it personally a little mature and strong for my tastes as I prefer them to be more modern and fresh.
All in all, I think the Lord & Berry lipstick pencil and the POP Beauty eye-liner pen do ooze glamour. I mean who doesn’t feel a little a movie star when they rock bold red lips or have the perfect seductive smokey eye? However, some of the other products fail to hit that “Hollywood Icon” criteria to the same degree. Although, this doesn’t detract from the fact this is one of the better subscription beauty boxes I have received.
Would I recommend ordering this box? Yes, I mean I will use every product to some degree and there is a good mix of makeup and pampering treats. Will I be keeping my subscription? I think I’ll wait until the next preview is announced. Genuinely, I think that’s why I became so disheartened with whole subscription box thing, there are some months and themes boxes that just don’t suit my tastes.
